ASSESSMENT CLASS

AER Strategy Form & Reflection

Reflection
1.     Think about how you will use the Assessment page of your Digital Portfolio during your first teaching block. Provide 2 examples, writing 1 paragraph for each.

I would use my assessment page during my first teaching as a resource guide. I have had the
opportunity to fill up my page with many different resources. During my placement, if I ever need more information or guidance on a certain topic I would reference my digital portfolio.

Another way I would use my assessment page is if I need to reference the different forms of assessment. I feel like I have a great resource blog on the definition of assessments. It would help me out when I am thinking of creating assessments and to figure out which one to use.

2.     Choose one professional learning goal from your AER Strategy Form that you would want to emphasis during a job interview. Post a rationale for your choice to your 8Y01 Dropbox.

I would want to emphasize the fundamental principles from my AER Strategy. The one that I focused on is supporting students with special needs. I feel like I did not have enough experience with students with special needs and now through resourcing for my AER form, I feel like I am well introducing to special needs.

Blog Post #2

Welcome back readers to my blog for assessment class! This post I will be reflecting on how the Growing Success Ontario Document has impacted my beliefs about assessment. To start you guys off, the Growing Success Document talks about all forms of assessment, evaluation and reporting policy, pretty much everything and anything assessment for teachers in Ontario.

This is a document that I have been getting really familiar with since I started my journey here at Teacher's College. So far, the Growing Success Ontario Document has reinforced my beliefs about assessment. The document has exposed me to many different forms of assessment along with how and why to implement them into the classroom. The Growing Success Document has been my holy grail when planning assessment when I am lesson planning. The document has given me the tools to enable students to reach their potential  in line with Ontario Government expectations and provide students with  opportunities when it comes to assessment.

Thanks for tuning in readers, until next time!

Blog Post #1- My assessment experience

Welcome to my first blog for my assessment class here at Brock University. I am excited to learn about the different forms of assessment and how to implement them into the classroom.

Reflecting on my experiences as a student,  evaluations were very much based on an assessment of learning taking tests and having final projects.

In grade school, I felt like the assessment of learning held me back because I would either get really nervous when taking a test or I would pull a blank. I remember I would always say, "Why don't they invent a device to read my mind so that they could see that I know the information?

Having that experience in grade school has shaped my perspective on assessments into the classroom because I want all students to succeed and demonstrate their knowledge of the material using different platforms based on what type of learner they are.

By making assessments engaging and providing a variety of assessments, I feel that they can take away the pressure, stigma and anxiety that some students may have in regards to taking tests and having only one form of demonstrating their knowledge.

I like how there are so many forms of assessments now and that they are used during the different stages of learning, such as assessment of learning, assessment for learning and assessment for evaluation.

I am really curious to learn about assessing creativity and how that would play out with art. From my experiences going to art school, it would come down to how well we could discuss our artwork, the reasoning why or how we created the artwork and the depth of the piece (not just something we came up with in a second).

There is so much for me to learn in regards to assessment and I cannot wait to implement them into the classroom.

Thank you for tuning in readers,

Until next time!
