It is time...

Image made from www.wordle.com

It is finally the end of tech class! Overall, the journey has been fast paced and crammed with information.

Who would have known that there were so many resources and tools for teaching using technology? Growing up, I would have loved to use all the resources that I have learned in tech class. We are in an era where people need to know how to use technology if they want to stay current and keep up with the times. Utilizing technology is such a great way to engage students and motivate them to participate, I don't see why teachers wouldn't use it. Now more than ever, educators need to be using technology in the classrooms.

With that being said, I have compiled a list of resources to help you introduce technology into the classroom:
(click on the resource name to be redirected to their page)

-Powtoon: a customizable movie and power point maker. You can even input an avatar that resembles yourself!

-Socrative: a great assessment tool and to make test.

- GoogleDoc: you can use this to create so many online tools such as tests, powerpoints, documents and much more.

- Toon Doo: a great tool for students who aren't the best at drawing but still want to create a visual image.

Wordlecreates an image using words that you input. You can use this if you want to combine definitions in a unit or even as a form of brainstorming.

- Time Toast: creates timelines. Pretty straight forward.

Paddlet: a source for students and teachers to collaborate online and instantly.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blogs and gained some insight into teaching technology into the classroom as well as teaching for future educators.

Until next time readers!

Story Line Quiz & Mind Mapping!

Wrapping it up!

In tech class, we are quickly approaching the end of the term. It seems like just yesterday that we started and now there is only one week left.

For tech class, we are going out with a bang! What do I mean by that? We will be creating, filming and directing our own Ted Talk! Now I have to say I am both excited and nervous about creating the Ted Talk, which will be based on my Genius Hour, Mars.

So far in class, I have an abundance of resources for my class regarding using technology for both assessments, teaching, and grading! Keep it posted for my final list of resources coming up!

For now, I will show you my Google Doc Quiz of a Story Line Book.

This just in...

This week during Tech class, we have been assigned our new project...a movie trailer! For this project we have to make a trailer to introduce our Genius Hour question.

One of the main inspiration for my Genius Hour was the Project One Mars video. Watch it below.

I feel like I go in and out of phases with the galaxy and my curiosity with what wanders in space. When I came across the Mars One video it sparked my curiosity with Mars once again. I love how the video hypes up the viewer and engages them into the subject. The video raises many questions that make you think about the bigger picture. Mars and the future of it is such a big topic which I hope I bring some justice too. For now, I will definitely use the video as my inspiration for my movie trailer.

I can't wait for you guys to check it out. Creativity in the making!

Until next time readers!

Genius Hour Time!!

This week in my Tech class, we had to come up with a Genius Hour question. I have always been fascinated with the galaxy and the universe growing up. I should always ask myself, "Is any other life form out there?" During my undergrad, I even created a collection of artwork based off the galaxy. So for my Genius Hour question, I am going to research this question, "What will the future of Mars be?"

During my research this week, I have found that the majority of the information on Mars is based around the mission Project One. Essentially, that mission is going to see if life on Mars can be sustained. Makes me wonder if the government is planning on making Mars the new Earth in a couple of years. But most of the information on Mars is either facts or predictions. I will have to research further to find out something more concrete.

For next week, I want to take a trip to the good old library and find some scholarly sources to find more questions to ask towards my hunt and hopefully find some answers. I'll keep you posted guys!

Until next time readers!

What did we learn today?

In today's class, we learned about a VERY useful tool that I will be incorporating into my classroom. It's called, drumroll.....POWTOON

What an amazing and creative way to present information to students just like you would with a powerpoint. With Powtoon, I love how it goes that much further and even animates your character or information you input. You have the creative liberty to create different backgrounds, characters, fonts, images and more.

As a teacher candidate, I could see myself using this in my classroom  as a way to present information to my students in an engaging way as apposed to something like a slideshow. I am all about something creative and that gives me the ability to customize it to how I want it to be.

Soon, I will reveal my Powtoon creation, so stayed tuned for that. Click here to be directed to Powtoon so you can start your creation!

Thanks for tuning in, until next time readers!

Let's talk...

As educators we need to lead by example! Today's topic is all about copyrighting and giving the credit to the author. Discussing this issue as an artist, you always need to source your "inspiration" and the work of other artists. Just as we always say to children not to plagiarize, copyrighting is kind of the same thing.

For educators, we need to cite all our sources. Here is a great handbook to use brought to my attention in my tech class called, Copyright Matters! And please, make sure you are citing it right ! =)

Welcome to the new era of Teaching, The Tech era!

Join me on my adventure through Teachers Education at Brock University. This was my first week of classes and boy ... it was a lot. Before this, I completed my undergrad at OCADU known as the Ontario College of Art & Design in downtown Toronto. There, I completed my major in Drawing and Painting & minored in Social Science. Art, has always been a passion of mine and being able to spread my knowledge and inspire others was always a dream come true for me.

During my first tech class, we learned a lot! I didn't know how much technology was involved in teaching students. Now thinking about it, it makes sense to educate students with technology since we live in a tech world. I am so glad that I have the patience for technology and have a background with coding! Well... enjoy my blog fellow earthlings =)
